Castle Sierck in Sierck-les-Bains is located in the north west of the Moselle in Lothrngen. It is located 18 km northeast of Thionville and 3 km from the borders of Luxembourg and Germany.
The castle is built around oval and its own defensive wall on a cliff of red sandstone, where the tributary joins the small of Montenach in the Moselle Valley. It is surrounded by three hills in the immediate neighborhood, the current mountain in the north, the Old Mountain in the southwest and east of the mountain cherry.
It is thought that probably in the 10th or 11 Century built a castle, around which the village Sierck-les-Bains arose. Also there is speculation that this plant was built on the remains of a Gallo-Roman castle, as was usual in other cases. However, there is no evidence for this assumption.
The first written mention of the castle from the 11th Century is evidenced by a certificate of the Duke of Lorraine Gerard d'Alsace in the year 1067th From his reign as coins have appeared, which were minted in Sierck. Otherwise there are no remains from this period of the castle. Its present form and equipment from the 15th to 18 Century.
The often destroyed and rebuilt fort was once one of the favorite residences of the Dukes von Lothringen.
